The Definition Of Night

It’s almost 11 pm and I was about to enter my room. Just then I thought of looking up in the sky. Wanted to check if the moon was still there. This curiosity was due to lunar eclipse held on 1st January. The moon was not there (Did Rahu swallowed it for real?). I tried searching the sky from back and sides of my house. It was nowhere. Darkness was trying to conquer the whole world. The fluctuating street lamp was fighting like a brave injured soldier.

Within seconds, I started traveling back in time. Why for sudden I was back in time? Curiosity increased as my flashbacks rendered an incident when I was five years old. I am in my bed aside my parents and sister. It’s dark and my father just switched off radio. Few minutes later, cats started fighting on the roof making strange sounds. Their meow was now meOOOOOOOOwwww. Fear was dominating emotion. My parents convinced me that cats won’t hurt me. I closed my eyes and never knew when I was covered by blanket of sleep. At that age, Night meant fear for me.

Now I am ten years old. I am naughty and mischievous child busy in playing and planning mischief. I made good friends in school and was enjoying every bit of time. Time was insufficient for my activities. I don’t want to sleep. Night, at that stage, was a big spoilsport. Continue reading →

The Rear View Mirror

I wake up in the morning after snoozing the alarm for five times at least. Wrapping up the bed, here I go for the natures call. There is this mirror hanged on to a wall. This object was bought by me. I wonder why I bought it. Doesn’t make sense huh?? It won’t. I am not that good looking to keep staring at what appears in the mirror. Maybe it was an unintended intention (??????) to see if I look good. I don’t know if the same mirror means anything to the rest of family.

That brings up one big question. Why man invented mirror? Was it man or a woman? They use it much more than we do. Isn’t a mirror waste of time? If I stand in front of mirror and comb my hair everyday, lets say for 5 minutes, Then I loose three hours of my life in a month. I could have used that to watch one Hindi movie with 8-10 songs or two English flicks.
The option of uncombed hair looks better now as I am converting into a movie buff.

A few days back, I read a story about acid thrown on faces of some young girls. This is the stage of your life when you want to look beautiful. Can you imagine the fear in their eyes when they’ll see their face in the mirror? I cannot comment on the crime committed as it will lead to a full paragraph of bad words but the role of mirrors is such that it will lead to a catastrophe. The world without a mirror seems to be a good place.

Then we have rear view mirrors.

These mirrors often reflect objects closer than they appear. They force us to look back and we do it. Not just once, but again and again and again. We develop a habit of looking back not just while driving but in our life too. If you drive often then you’ll know what I want to say. It’s not a crime to look back. You should remember one thing…
Life is ahead… Not the rear view mirror.

Till the next time you check out the mirror…

The Darkness In Between

Darkness is what many of us are afraid of. We are used to live in an environment full of brightness. That is the Sun. Almost 12 hours of the day are bright. The other hours are known as darkness. Because we are afraid to live in dark we have invented artificial lighting’s to brighten our lives. Due to this we can go all 24 hours in brightness.

The only time when we are with darkness is when we are in sleep. We are not working then. It’s the rest time. So in other words we are sleeping in darkness. Somewhere inside us there is a fear while we sleep. The cause is once again the darkness. Irrelevant of any other things that trouble your life, darkness is what you are afraid of most.

What is the main source of light? Sun in our case. It is a star of course. (Well I am not teaching you Physics or part of Geography. I am not good at teaching someone.) In 12 hours of our life we see one star that lightens up the world. Actually we cannot look at that star with naked eye. It is too bright and our eyes cannot handle it.

Now when it is dark, There is no Sun. Go to your terrace or get out of the house and look up in the sky. What you see? Stars. Many of them. Zillions of them. What we miss is this. We like the light, the bright side which is when we are unable to see the one star above us and we don’t like darkness, which shows us many stars at once.

Our life is brightened up with moments of success, joy, happiness and it darkens up when we fail or when we are sad. But actually we are missing a lot of opportunities that we cannot see while there is light. We cannot see the stars we can reach to. The unnecessary fear of dark entities make us fallback. Instead of watching the stars in the darkness we close our eyes and wait till it’s bright. We don’t even bother to think of question like “What if we open our eyes in darkness?” We hibernate and when we are out of hibernation we found ourselves weaker than what we were.

Don’t fear of dark. Face it. The next time you are in dark just remember “When it’s dark enough you can see the stars.”

Till it’s dark…

Sitting on the edge

Edges are dangerous most of the times. They hurt you as well. Sitting on the edge is what you won’t like to do. That is because you never know when you will fall. For an acrophobic person, The one who has fear for height, this is almost like a suicide. Without even attempting a jump he will be falling down from height just because of the fear for height.

Some years back, before joining to my first job, I was an acrophobic person. i used to fear by the heights. I was unable to go near the edges of anything high. imagine the cautious slow steps towards the edge going inch by inch. After joining the first job I had to climb the scaffoldings and the roof slabs for checking purpose. This is when my fear started fading. It still exists but to a small extent.
