Flock – The Social Browser

Just another web browser. For me it’s everything. It’s my default web browser. I was fed up of crashes with Firefox and high memory usage. The high memory usage problem still persists. Since the Browser is based on Firefox. But It doesn’t crashes. I don’t have to use many extensions as many features I want are integrated into it. I just love the Web clipboard feature. It’s like my life. Just clip to it and use it in my blog. Very simple. I can setup my blog through flock and never visit blog editor on my blog. The features of Blog editor are pretty neat. Then there is integration to many social networking sites and upload sites.

Features:

Flock 1.1 integrates social networking and media services including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, Blogger, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, etc. When logging into to any of the supported social services, Flock automatically activates these services within its features:

* Flock can indicate when friends have updated their profile, uploaded photos or other things.
* Flock has internal features that allow simpler sharing for text, links, photos or even entire videos.
* Flock has its own system allowing quick preview of online videos and photos, and subscription to video feeds.
* Flock’s Feed Reader organizes Atom and RSS feeds.
* Flock’s Blog Editor allows direct posting into a designated blog, along with being a blog reader.
* Flock also allows for third-party add-ons, including a number of Firefox extensions.

Requirements:
None in particular. Doesn’t support Windows 98 (I think so). Who uses that OS By the way.

Bitmeter

Many times you want to keep an eye on your connection. How much downloaded? or how much uploaded? or to check the amount of bandwidth consumed at an interval. There are many freewares for this and I’ll try to review some on my blog. This is the first one. If you spend a lot time being online or are deep into file sharing then this is the choice for you. Especially useful on torrents and you have limited quota per month.

Features:
History – Displays the statistics for hour, day, weeks and month basis. The chart is displayed in very visually friendly manner.
Alerts – Bitmeter can be configured to notify you when certain events occur. These notifications are managed via the Alerts Manager screen, accessible via the Alerts… option on the main menu.
ISP Restrictions – If your Internet Service Provider places restrictions on the amount you can upload and download each month, then the ISP Restrictions Screen can help you to ensure that you do not exceed your monthly limit.

mp3Trim

MP3 Trim is a neat little (free) program for clipping mp3s down to size and length. There’s no installation as it runs straight from the executable, and you can add fade effects to make the trim less harsh. Useful on files that contain unwanted sounds at the beginning or end, MP3Trim works by trimming precisely at MPEG frame increments. It can automatically detect digital silence and recover wasted disk space occupied by silent frames. In addition, it recognizes ID3 tags and cleans up missing or incomplete frames and WAV headers (for WAV-embedded MP3s). It also allows you to increase the sound level of the mp3.

ImageWatermarker 1.1

When you are posting images in blogs or forums, You like to have a watermark on them. So that all know its been uploaded by you. If you are running a blog or a website, You use this to prevent copying. Even if someone copies he’ll be advertising for your site. 🙂

There are many utilities available to watermark images. Very few are free and this is one of them. The actual application size is just 24KB. When I downloaded this I thought it’ll be a junk program. But then it’s coded with .NET. It’s small and serves my purpose. Remember that it’s a simple watermarker. You can change font, font size, bold, italics and underline text. You can change the position of watermark and its rotation.
