Backup Weekend

It’s been almost a month since I backed up my data. So I thought of doing this today. Was busy the whole day creating backups. Whenever I do backup I make sure that they are easy to find later on. Due to this fact, I have to go on renaming files with a particular file naming format I created for my backups. That makes it easy to read.

Just for example, when I create a backup of movies (Yes the DVDrips of course) I have this format for the file name.

MovieName.YearOfRelease.avi

Now I know how old the movie is just by reading the file name. I make sure along with the movie file goes the subtitle file also. Though I watch all movies without subtitles, there are some points where I don’t understand words spoken. Subtitles come handy here. They are also useful for a foreign language movie.

While renaming I keep in mind that the file names don’t have space in them. Spaces are no trouble now. Gone are the days of DOS. Still I replace them by a dot. I find long file names unnecessary. I try to keep them as short as possible. This keeps the index data small though it’s size is already negligible.

The use of above tips is when you have your crashed but have safe data. Almost all data recovery software’s use a DOS based interface which spoils the file names. These tricks help you to keep them to a certain extent. I used to take backups every week. That habit is gone and I want to revive it.

Then I use a software to catalog the files. This way I don’t have to search the CD’s and DVD’s by manually checking them. Just after burning, I catalog it. I use WhereIsIt for this. Also the CD or DVD is named with a marker pen with same name as I save it in catalog. I search through the program. I check the results and I get the name of CD or DVD where my required data is stored. Spending just a little bit of more time makes thing easier.

Many things still to be backed up including the blog database. See ya later..

Entrecard – What is it??

I had registered to Entrecard some days back. But I never inserted the code. The reason was simple. I didn’t knew much about this thing. So I just registered and kept myself away from this. Just when I started finding this entrecard everywhere, I became curious about it.  Did some reading about entrecard and the credits thing. Thought it may just help to get some visitors. And there you see my entrecard.

It’s on temporary basis. Just as I tried trafficswarm and it failed for me. I’ll keep this for about a month and check how it works out. If I get some visitors it’ll stay here, else the dust bin is the place to be. I noticed a lag in loading the sidebar due to entrecard. I hate that. Thats why I keep minimum external links. Right now I’m also thinking of uploading all images to my site instead of using imageshack.

To make a room for entrecard, I removed the search bar. I noticed that hardly anyone uses the search. A bit of organized categories, archives and calender kept searching away. I’ll still keep a link in the meta later on. If at all you need to search then that will help. Also I added the “Add This” button. Now its easy to bookmark the blog. I may remove it and use the buttons for some commonly use social bookmarking sites.

Also this socialspark is making me crazy. I’ve registered to it and claimed my blog. Still not verified. I’ve kept the link in body tag for the statistics and a higher izea rank. That is the prime reason for slowing down the loading time of the blog. I want to remove it but a higher rank can help to get some hits. If I get bad feedback about this then I’ll remove that. After all this blog is for your reading.

Spread Nonsense and Think Nonsense…

In search of Happyness..

A few days before I saw a movie called “Pursuit of Happyness“. Yes the spelling is right. Its happyness. I didn’t got time to say about this movie. So I thought of doing it today. Its a very fine movie wherein Will smith plays role of Chris Gardner His early professional life is very disturbed and he seems to be unfocused. To apply for job he doesn’t have enough qualification. He hardly completed his High school.

During this period his wife leaves him. Everyday fights lead to this. The time he needed her most, she leaves. The boy Christopher remains with Gardner. The story moves and there are many moments which touch to your heart. And those are the moments which reveal the relationship between Gardner an this son. The Love, care, affection he has towards his son. That makes him overcome the situation. And so do the son shows his towards the father. The child artist also played a great role here.

So why did I wrote this here. Just another movie review. Well if you watch the movie you’ll know why I wrote here. You’ll love to talk about this movie. It’ll surely be an inspiration and if not you’ll never feel you wasted some 2 hours of your life. Having love and affection towards someone can surely give you a reason to move ahead.

So till next movie…
