A Man Called Ove

“Sonja said once that to understand men like Ove and Rune, one had to understand from the very beginning that they were men caught in the wrong time. Men who only required a few simple things from life, she said. A roof over their heads, a quiet street, the right make of car, and a woman to be faithful to. A job where you had a proper function. A house where things broke at regular intervals, so you always had something to tinker with.”

I couldn’t start with anything else to review this book. This one paragraph pretty much sums up those two characters. Whatever they do in this book, good or bad, it’s because of this. One peculiar thing about Ove is that he never liked someone. He just disliked a little less.

This book is a love story. A story about friends. A story about neighbors. A story about how simple things matter in life and how they shape up ones life. It’s a story about a man called Ove and his wife Sonja. Their love story forms the crux of this book. It spread in between the chapters and not continuous. Because of this, Every other chapter, I had to pause. Those words choked me and flooded my eyes. It breaks your heart. The very next chapter made me go ROFL. A roller-coaster ride which ends somewhere in the second last chapter.

I tried to find flaws in this book. I couldn’t. Maybe because of the love story I overlooked them. Maybe it’s really well written. The characters in this book are weird and crazy. Ove will remind you of a Pixar movie “Up” and a TV show “Monk”. The Others easily stand out from the crowd. Their craziness, their foolishness, their stupidity, their love keeps you engrossed in the story. You wish that such characters were around you.

I wished there was more. More of Ove.

The Disconnected

Pain… is very painful. huh… Especially when someone close to you departs. You do everything possible to stop, but that person leaves you. Leaves you forever. That’s something you can’t do anything about. That’s what life is. It is very ruthless, ugly and yet beautiful. That’s supposed to be the greatest irony.

I have a friend whose name is Vijay. A cheerful, jolly person with a loud voice and thin body. Just like me. We met recently and I didn’t knew much about him. Today he started to open some pages of his life and I was surprised. He’s got five brothers including him and a sister. That’s a big family and he was the only person on whom the whole family depended until recently his brothers got jobs. After things got settled he married a year back.

What surprised me was that he had a twin brother. The had part surprised.. well shocked me. His name was Ajay. Both the brothers were exact copy. It was difficult to recognize them if they stood by side. Ajay married a couple of months earlier than Vijay. His wife gave birth to a baby boy. He was very happy and he planned his 1st birthday to be celebrated in a grand way. At this stage everything was going good. But they say… “When everything is going good, prepare for something really bad.

Tuesday Readings 04

I am not getting good response to Tuesday Readings post. I thought I would get. Anyways, I’ll still continue to blog about posts I liked most. The first one is perfect example that I pick post from anywhere. What makes a happy ending?? is a post from a blog which has total of six posts. But I liked the thoughts in the posts. This is something similar to my thoughts. I hope the author writes often after this.

The next post is about Nothing. The title itself is attractive. It’s nothing and started reading that. Remember the law of conservation of energy which we learned back in our school days? That is used here in a clever way. And I really liked this line. Just remember – if you want to make something, you can’t make it out of nothing.

How much you know about cancer? Are you aware of how deadly it is?? Do you know some cancer can be cured? Do you know which common day to day things can lead to  cancer? Too many questions. Some of the answers are found in The Dust on Your Computer Screen . I never knew my monitor can cause cancer. I am most of the times in front of this. This post was an eye opener.

The last post is about pictures. The author is a photographer or loves to take photos. The couple in the photo looks nice. There is a different kind of brightness on their face. This link is Another evening in the park. I will not write much about this. I’ll move  and let you read the blog and the pictures. 😀
