1461 Days Back..

It was one of those days when I was just staring at the computer screen. I had nothing to do. Totally jobless. Broadband had arrived just three months back. Most of my browsing was done during night hours due to the bandwidth cap. I clicked a random link out of the boredom. It was a warez blog with a great design. The bottom of the blog read ‘Powered by WordPress’. Clicking on the link introduced me to the world of blogging.

Now I wanted a blog. I wanted to blog. Why not? Everyone had a blog. There were blogs written by dogs and cats, supposedly. I already had the nonsense idea in my mind. The question was where to host? One of the perks of being a moderator or web hosting forum, you get free web-space. Thanks to the admin who set it up for me. I got everything I wanted to start a blog.

Four years ago, The very day I published my first post on the blog. I didn’t care about the language. Not about the content and not about who will read it. I just wanted to write. After a while, It got popular. I was overwhelmed by the appreciation. I even earned from blogging.

Over the years, The frequency of posts dried up. I didn’t even try to allocate time to blogging. And when I tried to write something, I was blank. That screen was punching me and I was taking blows standing.. Sorry. Sitting, Like a boxer out of practice. But today I decided to face it. This post is a result of that.

When I started this blog, I wanted one and I wanted to blog. Now I want to blog more. I want to write more. Lets see how much punching I can handle.

The Cup Of Life

Second ball of 49th over. Dhoni hits a six and whole India erupts. Finally.. The wishes of 1.2 billion people came true. Yes.. India won the Cricket world cup 2011. 14 nations, 210 players, Almost 45 days of cricket action and it ends on a sweet note. Every Indian around the world will sleep in peace today. The rush, excitement, tension, pressure is all over. This is the time for celebrations. For many this may be a once in a lifetime moment. I don’t know whether this holds true for me. But this is indeed unforgettable moment for me.

The last time I posted about the world cup, I wasn’t that happy with the proceedings. It was quite a dull tournament in spite of being a World cup event of a sport. Since then, things started moving. Then they gained speed and momentum and reached a peak in the final. The second half of the world cup delivered memorable moments for cricket. My only disappointment was that England wasn’t able to make it to the finals. They produced the best matches of the tournament except the one which bought them ticket back home. Some say, the England players missed their family and wanted to go back home. Could be the reason for this shameful end.

The second half of India matches was filled with excitement. They played against the defending world champions Australia and arch rival Pakistan. I predicted the win against Australia as they are weak against spin attack. But the match wasn’t easy win. India fought hard and won the match. Then came the match of the tournament. The match which makes impact on the relation between two countries. The match which is the often called, “The Mother of all matches”. India Vs Pakistan. I just wanted India to win this match. I wouldn’t mind India loosing world cup but not this match. Our team looked far better than the Pakistani team. But it’s not your talent which decides the match result. It’s the ability to handle the pressure. This match creates heroes and villains. Heroes were born and India won the match.

Then came the finals. I have always tagged Dhoni as a lucky captain and I always will. He doesn’t have that talent or the skill which is often talked about. But his unorthodox playing style and decision making works for the team. And when you are a captain of Indian team, your own skill and talent won’t matter till you win matches for India. This final was different. For the first time ever, Dhoni played captains innings. For me, Gambhir is the person who deserves the credit of the win. Just like in 2007 T20 finals, He played a brilliant innings which got shadowed. Player of the tournament was deserved by Yuvraj.

After the 2003 world cup finals, My interest in cricket almost died. I hardly watched cricket. Very few full matches. That was because of the loss in that finals. They should have at least fought and lost. But someone said. If it doesn’t end well, then it’s not the end. This final is the ending I was seeking for. I was completely out of my mind. I jumped, danced, shouted after the victory. Something I didn’t do in many years. Everyone around me was happy. Strangers hugging and shaking hands. Smiles spread all over. Cast, color, religion didn’t matter. There is only one religion Cricket and Sachin is the God. I was very happy that Sachin finally fulfilled his dream of world cup. Players carried him over shoulder around the ground.

What The… Worldcup!!!

The most anticipated world cup has started. It’s been eight days and there is not much happening in this most happening event. As a spectator, I expect thrilling finishes and tough competition in worldcup of any sport. But this Cricket Worldcup has been pretty much boring till now. There are exceptions.

The first, ENG Vs NED match. This was a very close match. I thought this will be the first upset of this worldcup. Somehow, ENG managed to save their “BACK”(You know the word). NED, tagged as one of the minnows, played brilliantly. They deserved a win. Better luck next time.

The next match, PAK Vs SRI. PAK is our BELOVED neighbor. So I was supporting PAK as any GOOD neighbor will. This was way closer than what I thought. I expected SRI to win as they had the home ground advantage. They even managed to restrict PAK to a chase-able total. But this game, is full of surprises. Captains bowling and The lost nerves of SRI players helped PAK to win the match. SRI didn’t play to their potential. Just as one is happy of his neighbor’s progress, I was also happy that PAK won. In fact, very happy.

The third match finished just a couple of hours back. IND Vs ENG. I had a hunch that IND will loose this match no matter what. That was because of their poor performance against BAN. If BAN can score 283 easily then ENG can easily score 350 against IND. Guess what?? I was almost right. It was sheer luck that ended the game in tie. When IND finished batting and scored 338, everyone thought this match will go to IND. I was quite disappointed by the way they gifted their wickets at the end of inning. IND should have crossed 350 mark with ease. ENG began chase in right direction. The thrill started in the last 10 overs of the match. Game switching sides with every ball delivered, every ball played. No one expected a draw here. But one need to expect unexpectation in this game.

Was this just because the worldcup has only started? Or the pitches are flat and made for batsmen? Is it just coincidence that both ENG matches were thriller?

Whatever…

Someone…

Someone put a life into this worldcup.

Bye Bye 2010

This is the last day of year 2010. So I decided to write and opened the blog editor. I couldn’t go beyond the blank screen. I kept staring and thinking of the best or worst things happened this year. Nothing… The most boring year so far. There were very few moments of excitement but not worth mentioning. As the year closed to an end, I desperately wanted see the new year sun.

This year I was totally brain stuck. No new ideas. No imagination. No crazy dreams. No Nonsense. I feel like this year was empty. Every year fills up my thought basket. I empty that at the year end for the new thoughts. Not this year. It’s already empty.

I hope the new year brings a lot of positive changes in me.
I hope it gives me courage.
I hope it gives me strength.
I hope it gives me the ability to take quick decisions.
And above all it makes me think selfless. You must have figured that out by my previous lines.

Life Is Sweet

Time passes very quickly. It’s been a month since I posted. Frankly speaking, I didn’t realize it’s been that long. It just seems yesterday. While skimming through my diary, I found a poem. It’s not by me. I may have found it on some newspaper or magazine. It’s my habit to keep such pieces together in one diary. Credit to the original writer. A message to everyone…

One day I was thinking what is life,
A sweet girl told me love is life,
My friends told me faith is life,
And my mother told me courage is life,
I was puzzled in search of life,
In a dream, an old man appeared,
He said,
“Don’t waste your time adding three or four
Time is less and work is more
Life is a name of mix and naught.
Some things are, valuable and short,
The longest life at death must end.
Your length of days, can’t extend.
So search for ever, never to fail,
If you fall, then don’t recall,
If you are fair in your role,
You will soon achieve your goal.”
He said this and disappeared……..
Now I knew life is sweet.
Which money can never buy.

To Write Or Not To Write

Phewwwwww….
Finally.. After a gap of almost two months, I am writing a post. This whole year has been non-productive for me in terms of writing. There is no excuse for this. My reading habit was responsible for my writing. I used to read a lot. For instance, If I was standing near dustbin(or rather overflown dustbin) and I had nothing to do, I would pick a paper from dustbin and start reading. Sounds crazy.. I can imagine in a place far far away, a dust bin full of paper waiting for me. I wish I could go there…

My primary source of reading was and is internet. I still read stuff from Wikipedia. Whats missing is the posts in blogs. I find it difficult to open my Google reader which must have gained weight by now. There were days when we used to exercise together, regularly. Daily exercise keeps you fit and fine and slim. I could see him punching in my face with only one word coming from the mouth.. Shame.. Shame.. Shame.. Yeah. It is unaware of the fact that I am a shameless person.

The second source are books. Sometime back I took a pledge that I will read at least two books a month. I lost this habit a couple of months back. Books have always been my best friend. The only thing I can trust blindly(Though I can’t read with my eyes closed). Irrespective of how good or bad a book is, it ends up adding\aiding my knowledge. Most of the times it adds words into my vocabulary. The last two months, my habit of reading books is getting some life. Read three books so far.

Every blogger has his days. These are not mine. Over the years I have also realized that reading is similar to lying. The more you practice the better you get at it.

Finally Upgraded to WordPress 3.0

It’s been almost a year or so when I last upgraded my wordpress. Main reason behind this laziness was that I was not having any problems with the version I was using, WP 2.8.3. I wasn’t much worried about the security as my blog was not a rich and famous types. Only one hacking attempt in last two years. Also the features which WordPress 3.0 boasts.. I don’t need them. At least for now.

So why did I upgrade? I upgraded just to make myself feel that I live in year 2010. That’s it. If you are a hardcore wordpress fan then you probably want to punch me in my face. But that’s the truth. I was much disappointed with the wordpress 3.0 beta. What I expected in wordpress 3.0 was that it shouldn’t be considered as a mere blog script. It should be a full fledged CMS. At present you need special themes designed for wordpress to look as a CMS\portal. I expected this to be in built in wordpress 3.0. Imagine if someone wants a website for his guitar store. Not to sell but just to showcase what they sell. He cannot afford a web designer and he doesn’t have enough knowledge to built a website. All he knows is wordpress. You believe it or not,but wordpress is so designed that anyone can use it.

But sadly, wordpress is a blog script. You can’t turn it into a simple website. This is what I expected. there should have been an option to display wordpress as traditional website. This would have been a revolution. I am sure, most of the small scale websites would switch to wordpress.

That said, I am still happy with the progress of wordpress. In coming days, I expect it to meet the requirements of common user.
