In the “And” it doesn’t even matter

When you are learning language, pay attention to grammar. Those were the words of my English teacher. No guesses for what I did. I ignored and here I stand before you with my poor grammar skills. I knew this when I started this blog and I thought I’ll improve. I have improved to some extent. That’s enough. Now about the “And”.  Sorry for ruining the lyrics of that rocking track by Linkin Park. That tops my favorites list.

What to do? I couldn’t think of any better title. This “And” became my topic when I was having conversation on twitter. One tweet appeared on my twitter homepage.

“If you were to spell out numbers, how far would you need to count to find the first letter A?”

I knew the answer and I replied “thousand”. And one twitter replied with “one hundred and one”. Now comes the confusion. Which one is correct? I knew it was “thousand” but the one who asked the question got confused. Moral is “Having bad grammar helps you to stay away from confusion”.

Improper grammar leads to funny incidents also. It can be embarrassing if you don’t take things lightly. (I am very serious kind of person. Don’t make fun of me.) Take this candidate’s application :

“This has reference to your advertisement calling for a ‘typist and an accountant – Male or Female’. As I am both for the past several years and I can handle both, I am applying for the post.”

When I was in college, there was a legendary workshop supervisor. His English was very bad. In the first workshop class he said “Machine the on”. It took all the courage and effort in the world to stop myself from laughing. I’ll never forget this incidence.

This post is just for fun and not at all to show my hate or love towards English. It will be always the language which is my mother tongue. I just took this as a challenge to write a post from a simple ignorable tweet. Oh!! And to clarify all the doubts about the riddle. In the end the “And” doesn’t matter.

I cannot say “Till my next grammatical mistake”. It will be in the next post itself. So I’ll say,

Lecture by a fool

Yesterday I was offline for most of the day. If you follow me on twitter then you must be knowing that. And if you are regular reader of my blog then you know how much religious I am. Actually it’s the whole family. When you stay in such a family, you are easily attracted towards the rituals and religious things done. That’s a good thing.

So yesterday was another religious ceremony. Like always, I had to be there and I was there for the whole day. You feel nice when you attend such things and I cannot miss that peaceful feeling. With me, my family and cousins also attended this ceremony. As always we had a chat and fun during the free time. This time it was a different talk from my side.

As most educated(educated only followed by a period) person in my whole family, They consider me as an idol. This happens with most of us. We keep someone as an idol and mostly it’s our elder brother or cousin. Unlike me, they have not done well in their studies. I used to give them advice and help whenever required but no effect. After being quiet for so many years I finally broke the silence.

I never considered myself someone whom you can consider as an idol. Though I want to be one. I tried and I am still trying. I told them all the things which I always wanted to speak up but I never did and never got such a chance. They all are intelligent and could have done better. They are into such a fields which they don’t deserve. Their intelligence is of higher level studies. I told them this and some advice which I cannot predict whether they will follow or not. The only good thing, apart from breaking the silence, was I could see that they realized their mistakes from their eyes.(Look into my eyes. I can read you)

They even said they’ll try to do better and think on all the things I said. A sigh of relief for me. After talking all this I realized I just gave a lecture. Yes, that is what I used to call such an advice given by my parents and all others. My stubbornness is what made me to reach this stage of my life. I only hope that this lecture by a fool turn them into wonderful person.

The circle of circumstances

Everyday, Everyone goes through usual or some unusual circumstances.  Some become victim of the circumstances and some perpetrator. For the victims, these circumstances are like Hitler, who dictates them, who controls them. He attacks through the U-boats of lack of confidence, lack of faith and brings the victim down to the knees. Victim is unaware that this Hitler doesn’t exists.

In such cases, there forms a circle of circumstances. While running from an event another event from past is just ahead of us. It’s like your back* is on fire and you are running towards fire. This circle is often hard to break. It requires lot of courage(and all the positive stuff you can recall) to get out of this. But wait!!! There is a simple solution to turn this Hitler into Charlie Chaplin.

It’s simple. Do not let circumstances control you. You change your circumstances. You’ll say this looks good when it’s in words on a paper or on this blog. But in real life it is difficult. That is not the case. When you are thinking of such a thing your back* is already on fire. You are waiting for fire engine to blow out. Keep waiting. That wait may last forever. Or just oppose the circumstances.

Charlie ChaplinLet the Charlie Chaplin make you laugh. Then the U-boats will take a U-turn and will vanish deep into the sea of happiness. The circle of circumstances will turn into a ring with which you can play as you want. Just like the dancers in the circus who rotating it around the waist. That will also keep you fit by loosing some fat around that area. 😀

* :- You can replace this word by “ass” for better understanding.

I got my first award

Time is a great teacher. You learn many things as the time passes on. I am not an exception. When I started this blog I was not a great writer.(Neither I am now.) I had a bit of hesitation before starting this blog. So instead of starting on 1st January, I started it on 1st February.

What was the hesitation for? I had urge for blogging after reading many blogs throughout the internet. Whatever answer I wanted, the search would land upon a blog most of the time. And they had beautiful explanations with good use of language. This was exactly my weak point.

I am not fluent to English. The reason may be that I have very few conversations in English. So forget about writing good in English. As I said I didn’t knew how to write a good blog post. Now the things are changed with time. At that time I wasn’t able to write quickly on a given topic. Now I can. Continue reading →

Bad bad server

Web hosting blues

My web hosting blues continue. Today was the worst day I thought. may be because I was logged in for hours and my blog won’t. My blog went offline due to database error for almost three hours. Also I had “error connecting database” error in the morning 2-3 times. That is so frustrating. To add, I get notified by some readers that they are unable to read my blog. (They are literate mind you.)

I am having these problems for almost two months now. I waited in the hope that this problem will be solved soon. Unfortunately this ain’t happening. I don’t want to move to professional hosting as I get some 100 odd visitors. That don’t take much bandwidth. Why should I waste $4-5 a month? This question seems to be answered now.

I tried contacting admin who was giving me great support and help. Looks like he is not there. Else this wouldn’t happen. Just waiting for some payments. I’ll be moving for sure now.
